Next week marks the 38th anniversary of the founding of WTDC. As a family company, we have the unique ability to tailor our services and infrastructure to better serve our customers. Over the last 5 years, WTDC substantially upgraded our facility and processes for the Duty-Free and Travel Retail market. From becoming the first active Foreign Trade Zone in PortMiami’s FTZ 281 in 2012 to the installation of our FTZ Temperature Control area last year, we are better suited than ever to provide logistics and inventory management of Spirits, Cosmetics, and Electronics.

FTZ Annual Reports Due
Reminder to all FTZ Operators: Your Annual Report is due March 31 to the Foreign Trade Zones  Board and is submitted through OFIS. 
WTDC is both an FTZ Operator and FTZ Consultant, assisting 13 other companies in their FTZ applications and operations. WTDC reported managing a flow of FTZ inventory valued over $71 million in 2014, primarily from the Duty-Free & Travel Retail industry.

DHS receives funding… for a week
Lawmakers passed an emergency bill last week to extend funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) until the end of this week. While essential services would continue if the funding ceases (TSA, CBP, Coast Guard will still report for duty and operations should continue as normal),  the services that support those departments, administrative roles such as accounting and training, would largely be furloughed.
Of particular concern to the Logistics community, as noted by the National Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association of America (NCBFAA) and published last week by Florida Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association (FCBF) would be the following DHS roles:

MDC’s Supply Chain Management Advisory Committee names WTDC’s Ralph L. Gazitua as Chairperson
WTDC President and CEO Ralph L. Gazitua accepted his nomination to become Chairperson for the Miami Dade College (MDC) School of Business Supply Chain Management Advisory Committee (SCMAC). The SCMAC will advise MDC on course curriculum, industry trends, technology, and serve as ambassadors linking MDC’s students to the logistics workforce.
