U.S. Trade Deal with China nearing final stages
Yesterday White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow told reporters that a deal was close to coming together that would end the months long trade dispute between the U.S. & China. One of the final negotiating points is settling on the amount of U.S. agricultural products that China will need to purchase in order for the U.S. to lift or lower the tariffs.

EU Tariffs on Bourbon slow the spirit’s explosive growth
Last year the EU levied a 25% tariff on bourbon in response to U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum. After years of booming export growth, bourbon sales have slowed in the wake of the tariffs. From the Bloomberg article featured below: “Exports of Kentucky bourbon have risen about 5% so far this year, lagging the 25% annual growth since 2016, according to the Kentucky Distillers’ Association. Sales to Europe, the largest market, have declined slightly, compared with 38% annual growth. “
The Carnival Foundation has pledged over $1 million from the Arison family and $250,000 to the Red Cross on behalf of its 5 cruise lines that sail from Australia. The Red Cross has also received pledges of $250,000 from Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings and $100,000 from Singapore Airlines. We applaud these companies and while the recovery efforts may take years or even decades there is solace in knowing that companies are stepping up to assist Australia in its time of need.

Police and Fire Departments attend Safety & Security Meeting at WTDC
This week WTDC changed up its quarterly Safety & Security meeting by inviting the Miami-Dade Police Department and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department to participate. Following a review of the cargo and facility procedures lead by WTDC Logistics Manager Ginger Diez, all those attending had a hands-on training on how to use a fire extinguisher properly. WTDC will be having a Fire Drill for its facility next week with the assistance of both the Police and Fire Department. Fire Drill and Fire Extinguisher trainings are offered for free by the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department and we encourage you to do a training with your own company. It was very informative!
