U.S. lowers tariffs on agricultural products

On November 14, the U.S. rolled back tariffs on nearly 200 agricultural products, most of which are not grown or produced significantly in the U.S. Popular food items in this tariff rollback include coffee, bananas, and other tropical foods and spices.

President’s Corner

As I reflect on the past week, I’m filled with gratitude and pride. Overseeing Homecoming as President of the FIU Alumni Association Board of Directors is always a highlight of the year, but this Homecoming felt especially meaningful. To see our alumni, students, families, and friends come together—cheering, reconnecting, and celebrating the spirit of FIU—reminded me why our Panther community is unlike any other.

Many of us will have a different homecoming in the coming days for Thanksgiving— traveling to loved ones, exploring new places, or hosting at home. Whether your trip takes you across the country or across town, I hope the journey brings rest and a renewed appreciation for the people who give your life meaning.

Wishing you safe travels, warm gatherings, and a Thanksgiving filled with good feelings and even better company.

Best Regards,
Sean Gazitua, President & CEO

FIU Homecoming
On November 22, standing alongside FIU Alumni from every generation, I felt the energy that only Homecoming can deliver: memories relived, friendships rekindled, and a shared excitement for the future of our university. It was a busy Homecoming Week as I presided over the Uncanging pep rally and the Trail of the Torch Ceremony on Thursday, and Saturday marked the Alumni reception at the ROAR Lounge prior to the FIU Football Homecoming game (which they won!). It’s an honor to help guide these moments and to witness the impact FIU has in our community.

U.S. and Switzerland reach trade deal
On November 14, The White House announced the framework for a new trade deal with Switzerland and Lichtenstein. The agreement reduces their reciprocal tariffs with the U.S. to 15% or less in exchange for better access to Swiss markets for U.S. exporters, capital investment in the U.S. by Switzerland and Lichtenstein, and the refrain from digital services taxes, among other deal highlights.
