Spirits industry addresses Brexit concerns
As the United States awaits new policies from its president-elect, the United Kingdom is navigating its exit from the European Union and the Spirits industry is making sure its voice is heard in the process. Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA) Chief Executive Miles Beale met with Brexit Minister David Jones in early November to address Brexit related topics such as the movement of skilled workers, competitive and trade concerns, as well as remind Jones of the Wine and Spirit industry’s stake in the UK economy as an employer of 600,000 and generator of £45.5bn.
MDC’s Dr. Padrón to be honored by the Obama administration
Congratulations to Miami-Dade College President Eduardo Padron! This week the White House announced that Dr. Padron will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his role overseeing Miami-Dade College and the opportunities it has created for its 165,000 students. Miami-Dade college enrolls and graduates more African American and Hispanic students than any college in the country.
Mr. Ralph L. Gazitua, WTDC President & CEO and an MDC alum is especially appreciative of Dr. Padron’s efforts as he was instrumental Mr. Gazitua’s involvement as Chair of the Supply Chain Management Advisory Council of Miami-Dade College.

FIU students meet Indian service project partner
In honor of FIU guest speaker, Anup Nair and his wife Raji, WTDC President and CEO Ralph L. Gazitua joined the FIU International Business Honors Society (IBHS) students and their faculty advisor FIU Professor David Wernick for dinner after Mr. Nair’s lecture on November 8th. Mr. Nair is the service project partner of the FIU IBHS initiative in India to support women entrepreneurs. WTDC has provided a scholarship for students to attend this service project for the last two years.
