PortMiami back to being world’s busiest cruise port

PortMiami has surpassed Port Canaveral to regain the title as the busiest cruise port in the world. The Cruise Capital of the World welcomed around 7.3 million passengers in the Fiscal Year 2023. PortMiami cargo also surpassed 1 million TEU for the 9th consecutive year.

ProChile event celebrates 20 years of Free Trade Agreement

On Monday, December 11th, WTDC attended Chile & USA 200/20 Partners for a Better Future conference. The Event commemorated 200 years of Chile-USA diplomatic relations and 20 years since the Free Trade Agreement between the countries was signed in Miami.

The event entailed panels covering the Chile-USA bilateral relationship as well as the importance of innovation and sustainability.
Speakers included Mr. Juan Gabriel Valdes Chile’s Ambassador to the U.S., Ms. Bernadette Meehan U.S. Ambassador to Chile , Mr. Ignacio Fernandez General Director of ProChile, and Mr. Patricio Sepulveda Founder and CEO of Aeronex Cargo, President of the Chile-US Chamber of Commerce and FEBICHAM.

Port Everglades new cranes

Last week, Port Everglades added three Super Post-Panamax container gantry cranes to their port operations. Port Everglades is going through a $471 million infrastructure upgrade to accommodate larger cargo ships. Each gantry crane has a reach of 22 containers wide and a lift of 8 containers high.

The new cranes will be fully operational in 2-3 months.

Azamara joins Port Everglades

On December 12th, Port Everglades held a traditional plaque-and-key ceremony to welcome Azamara Cruises to its fleet. Azamara is a small-ship cruise line that aims to create a more meaningful travel experience through longer destination days and docking at smaller ‘hidden gem’ locations.

Azamara will sail its first ever World Cruise from Port Everglades in 3 weeks.

Congratulations Leilani! On Sunday, December 10th, WTDC Marketing Assistant Leilani Shirvis graduated from FIU with a Bachelors in Marketing and International Business. She’s been an excellent addition to our team and we wish her much success in the future.
