Port Everglades receives approval to deepen and widen channel
On December 8, Broward County Commissioners gave the go-ahead to create a Project Partnership Agreement (PPA) to bind the US Army Corps of Engineers and Port Everglades for a channel improvement project. The project will widen narrow areas of the channel and deepen the channel from 42 to 48 or 50 feet to accommodate larger cruise ships and shipping vessels. It is scheduled for completion in 2029.

The new Heron Garage at Port Everglades is a $120 million upgrade underway at Port Everglades to better serve cruise ship passengers. The garage construction includes a people mover, solar panels, and a touchless parking management system. “We’ve done everything we can to accelerate while business is down and times are a little bit slower,” said Port Everglades CEO Jonathan Daniels. “You don’t see the congestion. You don’t see people moving through.”
